Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL)
The holder of a Commercial Pilot Licence may exercise the privileges of a Private Pilot Licence and the privileges of a VFR OTT rating. A commercial pilot may engage in commercial air service.
Requirements:
- Prerequisites: Valid Private Pilot Licence.
- Age: Minimum of 18 years of age.
- Medical Fitness & Validity: Category 1 Medical Certificate.
- Knowledge: Minimum of 40 hours ground school on the following subjects:
- Canadian Air Regulations
- Aerodynamics and Theory of Flight
- Meteorology
- Airframes, Engines and Systems
- Flight Instruments
- Radio and Electronic Theory
- Navigation
- Flight Operations
- Licensing Requirements
- Human Factors, including Pilot Decision Making
- The stundent must achieve a 60% in each of the four categories: Air Law, Navigation, Meteorology and Aeronautics on a multiple-choice written examination.
- Skill: Within 12 months preceding date of application, a student must successfully complete a Transort Canada flight test as outlined in the Flight Test Standard - Private and Commercial Pilot Licence - Aeroplane (TP13462).
- Experience: Minimum of 200 hours of flight time, of which 100 hours shall be pilot-in-command. An applicant shall have completed 65 hours flight training consisting of a minimum of:
- 35 hours dual, including:
- 5 hours night, including a minimum of 2 hours cross country
- 5 hours cross country, which may include the 2 hours from above
- 20 hours of instrument flight time
- 30 hours solo, including:
- 25 hours emphasizing the improvement of general flying skills, including: 300 nautical mile cross country flight which shall include a minimum of 3 landings at points other than that of departure.
- 5 hours night with a minimum of 10 takeoffs, circuits and landings.
