Private Pilot Licence (PPL)
The holder of a private pilot licence may act as pilot-in-command or co-pilot of an ultra light aeroplane or a single engine aeroplane that is not a high-performance aeroplane.
Requirements:
- Age: Minimum of 17 years of age.
- Medical Fitness & Validity: Category 1 or 3 Medical Certificate.
- Knowledge: Minimum of 40 hours ground school on the following subjects:
- Canadian Air Regulations
- Aerodynamics and Theory of Flight
- Meteorology
- Airframes, Engines and Systems
- Flight Instruments
- Radio and Electronic Theory
- Navigation
- Flight Operations
- Licensing Requirements
- Human Factors, including Pilot Decision Making
- A stundent must achieve a 60% pass in each of the four categories: Air Law, Navigation, Meteorology and Aeronautics on a multiple-choice written examination.
- Skill: The student must successfully complete a TC flight test to the standard outlined in the Flight Test Standard - Private and Commercial Pilot Licence - Aeroplane (TP2655E).
- Experience: Minimum of 45 hours of flight training including a minimum of:
- 17 hours of dual instruction including a minimum of:
- 3 hours of dual cross coutry
- 5 hours of dual instrument
- 12 hours of solo including:
- 5 hours of solo cross country including:
- 150 nautical miles
- 2 full stop landing
