Recreational Pilot Permit (RPP)
The holder of a recreational pilot permit may, under day VFR, act as pilot-in-command of a single engine aeroplane that is not a high-performance aeroplane and seats a maximum of four persons. No more than one passenger is to be carried on board with a Recreational Pilot Permit.
Requirements:
- Age: Minimum of 16 years of age.
- Medical Fitness & Validity: Category 4 Medical Certificate.
- Knowledge: A stundent must achieve a 60% pass in each of the four categories: Air Law, Navigation, Meteorology and General Knowledge on a multiple-choice written examination.
- Skill: The student must successfully complete a Transport Canada flight test to the standard outlined in the Flight Test Standard - Recreational Pilot Permit - Aeroplane (TP12475E).
- Experience: The flight training shall include a minimum of:
- 25 hours of flight training including a minimum of:
- 15 hours of dual instruction
- 5 hours of solo practice

Transport Canada does not require a Ground School for RRP; however, it is recommended to ensure a pass on the Transport Canada written examination which is 60%.
